Confirmed from Northshore Trail's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Popular, 9-mile, 27-mile loop trail for walking and hiking, plus mountain biking.
What runners say about Northshore Trail
“It’s beautiful in every season, and sitting by the lake is always so serene.”
“Some areas of the trail are very hot due to lack of tree shade, especially during Texas summers.”
This is part of a wider system of trails around the Grapevine Lake. At this specific point there's a parking lot for about 10 vehicles. The trail runs very close to the parking and it extends for several miles as a loop.
This is my absolute favorite trail in the area! It’s fairly easy with some mild elevation changes, but nothing too challenging. I highly recommend experiencing the full 20ish miles if you’re up for it, but there are plenty of shorter paths as well.
We had a very refreshing trekking through the woods this morning. The trail is very nice and we'll maintained. Not difficult at all. Initially we took the shorter trail (loop 1), and it was finished by one hour. Then we took a longer one, and we ended up walking for over 7 miles in 3 hours.
One of the best hikes in the immediate neighborhood of grapevine. Scenic and pleasant specially during spring and fall seasons. Sometimes it gets too crowded and crazy for hiking during the weekends, specially on trails where mountain bikes are also allowed. Weekdays are perfect.
Trail conditions & character
“The trail is unpaved natural singletrack with constant rolling terrain, wooded sections, roots, rocks, and occasional lake views.”
“Excellent flow, mix of wide and narrow, shaded and open areas, singletrack, tight turns, bridges, creeks, couple of large rock drops and a couple of short, challenging climbs.”
“Mornings tend to be busy with bikers, so if you’re hiking, especially with a dog, be sure to stay alert!”
“parking lot and back in this order - loops 2, 3 4 them loop 1 at the end - approximately 11 miles.”
