Confirmed from Oak Riparian Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Scenic neighborhood green space next to trails with a playground, grassy field & picnic areas.
What runners say about Oak Riparian Park
“Safe, beautifully landscaped, clean and everything is Green and well maintained.”
“With a stream that flows through the creek after it rains and trees that hang over the trails it's such a gorgeous walking area!”
“There is quite a lot of shade along the trail.”
This is a great hike and fun place to mountain bike. It's funny cause most people know this spot as Calaveras. It is an old volcano that hasn't erupted in quite some time. There are signs of you get lost and plenty of people and houses nearby for point of reference.
Love this park. Great playground for kids. But if you want to hike, lovely trails from easy to very hard. The view from up top is totally worth it! Beautiful plant life and flowers. Bathrooms on site.
Nice play place, simple but enough to run it out. The trail is great! Woods with a little creek then marshy wetlands then before you know it you're on the volcano trail at Lake Calavera! I love the different parts of this trail in such a short walk.
Accessibility: there is one accessible/handicap parking spot and a ramp to get onto the sidewalk. The rest of the parking is also limited as it small. There are benches (cement) at the park but they are in the grass. The park does have lights that come on automatically at night (came on at 4:39 PM on 12-12-2021).
Trail conditions & character
“There is also a nice flat area just north of the volcano that leads back to the main parking area.”
“With a stream that flows through the creek after it rains and trees that hang over the trails it's such a gorgeous walking area!”
“Has 2 nice play structures, lots of grassy areas kids can use for playing, tables w/ benches, and restrooms.”
“You can sit and enjoy, play on the playground, have a picnic or go for a hike/stroll on the trails that go through wooded areas.”
“There are not allot of technical features but plenty of elevation to be had.”
“This trail would be jogging stroller friendly but a carrier would probably be easier since you have to cross the creek on a board.”
“Liked this little park and the trail leading off it onto the wooden boardwalk, past lillies to the reservoir.”

- ShadeRunners describe real tree cover here — it makes a summer afternoon workable
- At the trailheadparking, restrooms — reported by runners
- Stroller / wheelchairReported as smooth and step-free enough for a running stroller or a chair.
