What Stony and Metro have missing is what Oakwoods has in abundance, isolation! Although small, it seemed like there was space for everyone there. I didn’t see any of the main sporting options offered at other parks. Mainly kayaking, picnics, bicycling, nature center and trails.
Great place for a walk. The dogs really enjoy the river. We have found that galoshes work well in spring. All the frogs are out, they were SO loud, pretty cool to hear. We also saw an eagle, great place for bird watching.
I can't wait to spend more time here! After leaving Willow Metropark I decided to turn into Oakwood's. It was a nice relaxing drive. We stopped at the playground and walked around the nature center. Unfortunately the deck to view the river was blocked off.
Visited here with the fam in late May and we enjoyed the trails quite a bit! The longest there is the purple trail (2 miles) and it was enough for us to feel exercised! The first half runs next to the Huron River and has many resting opportunities to catch the views. Really nice time and will absolutely visit again.
