Confirmed from Petersburg National Battlefield Park Trailhead's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

Nice place to visit. The hike was nice and the path was cleared not a bad hike. Yes please go here just for the day and do the hike.

Very nice historic area. Sure puts Petersburg's importance in the war into perspective. Signage and historical markers, informational, plaques, and a very nice trail down to the Dominator.

★★★★☆ — Diane , May 2023

Enjoy the park a couple times a week. Generally I walk the trails but the park personnel are very friendly and intimately familiar with the history related to the park. The grounds are always well kept and clean.

I drove up to Petersburg just to visit the National Battlefield and Pamplin Park. If you want to drive through the park and see the sites, like the Crater, make sure you start at the visitor's center at 5001 Siege Rd, Petersburg, VA 23804. It's a small, outdated building, but it has that nostalgic NPS feel.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
