Confirmed from Pimiteoui Trailhead's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Park with picnic facilities and hiking trails, some with hills.
What runners say about Pimiteoui Trailhead
“Beautiful trail that takes you from Forest Park Nature Center to an overlook that President Theodore Roosevelt once called "the world's most beautiful drive.”
I've been consistently travelling this trail for about 3+ years now. It's very well maintained. Has many beautiful views. As a trail runner, I've rarely found a more challenging course, and as a daddy I'd say it's perfect for an after school walk/run with the little ones.
Epic short hike, we loved it. We were lazy and started at the top of Grand View Drive and had my wife pick us up at the bottom at Forest Park Nature Center about 45 minutes later. This is the best way for beginner hikers and kids to enjoy the experience without over doing it. Minor uphill sections with this method.
A very nice park at the north end of Grandview Drive. It has picnic tables and an opportunity to park to walk along Grandview. The view of the Illinois River is great and you can access the Pimiteoui hiking trail which leads you down, then up, then back down the bluff again terminating at Forest Park Nature Center.
Beautiful views. Nice picnic tables with a grassy area. The trail is 1-way (not a loop). So you will go down then back up (or the other way around). The other trailhead is at the Forest Park Nature Center.

The practical stuff
- AccessOpen 24 hours — no gate to beat, so a 5am or a 10pm run both work
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
