I grew up sledding at Pinehurst Hill during the winter and playing in the woods there in the summers; I wouldn't trade what that was for me as a kid for anything...except for what Pinehurst Park is now! Sledding there now is far safer than it ever was.
In the winter there is; a sweet steep sledding hill. With a separate hill for snow boards. There's 2 ice skating rinks. One for hockey and one for recreational ice skating. A fire pit to warm up by with some seating. An enclosed, heated pavilion to get out of the wind.
Went mid-January for some sledding with my 4 year old. The hill was pretty icy since it was about 20° out and it hasn't snowed in over a week but other than the difficulty trying to get up the icy hill pulling the daughter on a sled she had a blast so it was all worth it.
