Confirmed from Powhite Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

A hiden gem in Richmond We drove all the way from Norfolk to enjoy this Beautiful trail Feb 12 2022 70 degrees The Trail was Amazing, the weather was great a lot of people hiking we did the outer loop this time.

This place is great for a city dweller who is is seeking dirt hiking trails beneath a forest canopy. I've seen deer, turtles, a fox, LOTS of squirrels, and a bunch of other wildlife here. 2.4 mile loop around the park is my daily workout and a great way to burn off some of my 19lb terriers extra energy.

★★★★★ — Simon , Nov 2017

A nice park with good trails. There are roots and some short but steep areas, otherwise the trails are wide enough and well established. The trail markers are limited and vaguely simple. My rule of thumb is to take a photo of the park map and stay either to the left or right the entire hike.

★★★★☆ — Richard , Jan 2023

For mountain bikers, this is Richmond's easiest and most well-developed park. For hikers, this is probably the least interesting of the mountain biking parks, though the terrain is still nice and the wildlife is plentiful. The biggest problem with this park is the constant noise of Chippenham Parkway.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

The practical stuff

  • AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
  • SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeRunners describe real tree cover here — it makes a summer afternoon workable
  • At the trailheadparking — reported by runners
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
