Confirmed from Red Tail Trail's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
What runners say about Red Tail Trail
Great Mountain Biking trail. I recommend going up about 1.9 miles and then taking Landslide Loop down. So fun.
Had a great experience! The route I took is red tail to chakar butte to currant creek trail. If you go early June to mid June you might find some ripe golden currants. If you don't know what you're looking at please don't eat it. If you come in on a windy day you'll have a great time!
Love this place! Perfect for a day hike because you get to make it as long or as short as you like with all the various loops and such 🙂
This short 1.2 mi of nice singletrack is a regular ending portion of a nearly 18 mile/2500' vert 5 star ride of mostly intermediate/moderate terrain ending (or beginning if you choose) from the parking lot of (I believe) the same name on Dry creek rd.
Trail conditions & character
“There is parking at the trailhead but you have to cross over a road that can have fast moving cars but the amount of traffic isn't bad.”
“Fun little climb that connects to landslide trail or take a right on bitterbrush and find Chukkar Butte trail.”
“The area is beautiful, and the trail offers several options depending on whether you want to spend less or more time.”
“There's a few attached loop trails if you want to add on mileage.”

The practical stuff
- AccessHours vary — hours are not posted for this trail, so check before an early or late run
- SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- At the trailheadparking — reported by runners
