Confirmed from River Mountains Loop Trail's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Purpose-built 34-mi. route for hiking, cycling & equestrian use, with campsites & restrooms.
What runners say about River Mountains Loop Trail
“The River Mountains look dead and monotone from a distance, but gorgeous and fascinating up close.”
“Sooo beautiful and quiet!”
“There are some very easy walking sections and some challenging sections.”
The River Mountains look dead and monotone from a distance, but gorgeous and fascinating up close. Desert Bighorn sheep and great Rock formations. Wild flowers late March to early May. Winter and spring hikes best. Don't try this mid-day between June and September! Take plenty of water.
What a gem! We love to walk and this loop offers everything. You can walk on the 35 mile paved loop or wander onto the miles of dirt trails. Check out the website and print the map to see where there is water, restrooms, park ranger stations, parking lots etc. for the section you choose to walk.
34mile paved loop with great views. I did this on a 3speed beach cruiser clockwise, which people say is the easier direction. It was a tough ride but very rewarding. The total elevation gain is 2700ft.
Finally did the entire loop, love it. I give a ton of gratitude to the folks that envisioned and then built this bike trail,..a lot of passion, creativity and hard work went into this project. My wife and I did it, Oct 10th, and used up 6 of our 8 liters of water, about 6 Cliff bars, and a chunk of cheese.
