Confirmed from Rock Island Trail State Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
What runners say about Rock Island Trail State Park
“There's also restrooms near Toulon at the Toulon trailhead, which was nice to see, and the trails are well-maintained all along the segment.”
“I made a trip from the Quad Cities to Wyoming, IL to do some trail running on a gorgeous day in June of 2026.”
I had been thinking about Biking this Trail for over a year. I actually picked up this Trail at the Toulon access and wrote all the way through to Alta. This included the actual park that's in Wyoming. The trail itself was very nicely groomed varying from crushed limestone to gravel in some spots.
Nice rail trail. Good tree cover most of the way, with some open field and steam views at various points along the way. Saw an owl make a kill right in front of me as the sun was rising. The sun rays through the early morning mist was amazing.
A nice well maintained scenic path To hike walk or bike through Illinois.. I've only traveled a very small portion of the entire trail in a few different areas but I can tell you that I've come across some unique and beautiful landmarks and resting areas you will come across sporadically..
I made a trip from the Quad Cities to Wyoming, IL to do some trail running on a gorgeous day in June of 2026. The little train depot next to the water tower is quite lovely to see, and a great trailhead for the Rock Island State Trail going north to the trail start at Toulon or south to Princeville and beyond.
