We have not been able to confirm the surface, distance or shape of Roundhouse Trailhead yet from its own listing, the park's website or runner reviews — so those cells stay blank rather than guess. What is below comes straight from the listing and from reviewers' own words. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Roundhouse Trailhead

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (35 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

Roundhouse Trailhead entrance is the old Bowen Ranch road heading West towards the Franklin Mountains. It's great for biking and hiking. Especially easy for folks new to experiencing the desert. The Roundhouse was built as a bunkhouse for the Cowboys of the historic Bowen Ranch.

★★★★☆ — Ken , Jun 2020

On the Roundhouse Trailhead not to far off of Martin Luther King Jr Blvd. It’s about a mile hike in sand to reach the ranch and connect to the Coyote Ugly Trail, I then connected on the Sotol Forest Trail to the right and up to the saddle.

★★★★★ — Arturo , Jan 2024

I park here probably 5 times a week when I bike or run. There is no bathroom, just a heads up. There is a picnic table with a light. It’s on a 15 min timer. Walk up and turn the knob and boom. If your a before sunrise kind of person. There is also a bike stand/mechanic stand there for you MTB Peeps out there.

★★★★★ — Justin , Apr 2022

Excellent trail for intermediate to advanced. Some options for beginner as well.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
