Confirmed from Runyon Canyon's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Runyon Canyon

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (46 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 3 mentions

“You're literally hiking above Hollywood and the city sprawl is gorgeous at sunset.”

👟 good for all levels 2 mentions

“fairly easy hike, just make sure you bring extra water as it gets pretty warm.”

Everyone knows Runyon, but not many take the Vista-Street backside entrance. It’s quieter, steeper, and shaded by eucalyptus trees, making it feel more remote. Fewer people, more birds, and sunlight filtering through – it’s almost meditative.

I love Runyon Canyon! It's my favorite place to hike in Los Angeles. It has amazing views of the entire city around it.

★★★★★ — Kseniia , Apr 2025

EVERYTHING IS PREFACED BY FINDING PARKING or getting here another way... The REAL way to take the Runyon trail! Go in at the base in Hollywood, and go up to the views and famous walking trail being used by models, influencers, dog walkers and actors.

★★★★★ — Neil , Mar 2026

Great trail for walking or running! Very runnable. Don't even look for parking on Fuller after like 7 am, just find it on nearby neighborhood streets like Camino Palmero and Vista. There are porta potties just past the entrance on Fuller!

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
