Confirmed from Rust Nature Sanctuary's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Tranquil nature preserve with 68 acres of wooded trails, a charming historic center & a garden.
What runners say about Rust Nature Sanctuary
“Beautiful, secluded place that you would never guess was in the middle of Leesburg.”
I went here one Saturday in June to walk my then 6 month old lab. I don't know if it's more crowded usually, but on this day we seemed to have the whole preserve to ourselves. It was a good mix of wooded trails and meadows, and we spent several hours exploring and lounging around.
A large sanctuary. 20 miles of trail, lakes & ponds. Well marked trails, plenty of parking.
A pleasant place for an off-season walk in the woods today (2024-12-26). Pond and vernal pool frozen. Only wildlife seen were distant vultures, but that was just my luck today. Trails pass through woods and meadow areas.
Decent wedding venue, tent space was large. Very pretty and good staff. One thing is that the bathroom situation isn’t great. Porta-potties outside near the tent (no place to wash hands) or a decent walk to the bathrooms inside and they were small. This caused some long lines.
