Confirmed from Saratoga Gap Open Space Preserve's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

good starting point to hike down into single-track forest trails. big basin. castle rock. portola. butano. beware: cars are ticketed after sunset!

★★★★★ — Sam , Jul 2017

Fantastic place for those who like to mountain bike. There's the right amount of elevation, with nice views to keep you entertained. For bikers, it pays to not get too overconfident, especially during the first two miles of trails (starting from the Saratoga Gap trail on Hwy 9).

★★★★☆ — Marco , May 2016

Very pretty view. I would highly recommend biking up to see it from south bay as the grind of riding up the hill makes the view even more sweet as you have worked hard for it. It is also accesible by car for those who don't wish to cycle.

★★★★★ — Colby , Jul 2019

Ample shade and beautiful views made the hike much comfortable even in sunny weather. I was surprised though as I didn't see many people hiking there.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
