Confirmed from Schunnemunk Mountain Otterkill Road Trail Head's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
What runners say about Schunnemunk Mountain Otterkill Road Trail Head
“Beautiful easy hike and this was my first time, you do need to cross a little creek\river depending on what time of year you do it.”
“You have to pay attention since a lot of the parts are not well marked, especially at the beginning of the white trail.”
Parking lot holds about 30 cars. No bathroom facilities, no entry fee. Trail markings are not the greatest. Download a map or take a picture of the map at the Trailhead. Bring enough water and wear hiking boots. It's very rocky. Bring plenty of bug spray!!! Not crowded at all even with today's great weather.
The parking lot is a good size and free of charge, I got there on a Friday 1pm late October there were only 3 cars there. As someone else commented, the big loop is a hard trail... Some climbing and you are mostly walking on boulders almost the entire Jessep Trail.
Steep hike, but fun, took a couple of hours. Sharon’s bench is in the about 25 minutes in and a creat place to take a break and have some water. This trail was uphill pretty much the whole way 😂. Great view from the top!
Beautiful easy hike and this was my first time, you do need to cross a little creek\river depending on what time of year you do it. Bring water proof sneakers, boots or shoes for the circle \U trail. Make sure you check yourself and shim you accompany on risk trail for ticks every good 10 mins.
