Confirmed from Schunnemunk State Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Schunnemunk State Park

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (450 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 13 mentions

“It's a beautiful hike, and you get some amazing views up top, but there are some pretty rough climbs at times.”

🪧 well-marked 3 mentions

“Beautiful park with well marked trails and views on views!”

Great hike, but the trails need work between the two ridges. Hiking solo, you will need to know the trail routes pretty well to avoid getting lost, there are many unmarked paths, and the valley between the ridges is quite steep and rocky following the orange and white trails, along with the Long Path.

★★★★☆ — David , Sep 2018

Great hilly rocky trails. Definitely get yourself ready for some leg work out. Bring yourself some great lunch to enjoy on top of the ridge over looking the valleys.

★★★★★ — Eric , Sep 2020

It is a well maintained trail with beautiful view. If you start with yellow and end with white, it would be about 3 hours slow hike.

★★★★★ — Azi , May 2021

Nice short hike to OCs tallest mtn. Some off season views, quasi-well maintained trails. Perfect day hike that gets you right to work (start at trestle and veer right to white trail. Bring bug spray, camera, and water.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
