Confirmed from Storm King State Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 12 mentions

“Storm King State Park, located in the Hudson Valley of New York, offers a stunning natural escape with rich history and breathtaking views.”

🪧 well-marked 3 mentions

“Suggest to do your homework before getting there because the trailheads and/or parking lots are not all clearly marked.”

👟 good for all levels 2 mentions

“It's a fairly easy hike but I would *definitely* bring some sturdier shoes and expect to climb up a bunch of rocks.”

This is a beautiful park with amazing views of the Hudson River and Hudson Highlands across the river. The park is very popular and on weekends could be overcrowded. There are several access points: 1) from Mountains Rd (small parking 5-7 cars top) closer to Storm King Mt.

Never disappoints. Even in bad weather the sculptures add to the ever changing landscape 🎨🖼. I like how you can rent a bike or hop on a free tram if you don't feel like, or can't walk the entire area. There are so many sculptures on display that you should really spend the entire day here discovering them.

Its an easy and calming hike. Definitely do watch out for failing branches & trees thought. The trail is very visible and hard to miss, at the top of the mountain you will get distant mountain views, parking is at the entrance, roughly 4-5 car can fit, off roading is not allowed.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

The practical stuff

  • AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
  • SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
  • At the trailheadparking — reported by runners
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
