Confirmed from South Valley Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about South Valley Park

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (1,195 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 15 mentions

“Views to the south are beautiful and on very clear days you can probably glimpse pikes peak.”

👟 good for all levels 3 mentions

“I like that they have bathrooms at the parking lot, picnic tables, and lots of easy trails.”

I love hiking here, there are so many trails and beautiful sites! My dog has bad anxiety and gets loud and whiney around other dogs so I typically park at the back because it's less crowded and not as many dogs. I like that they have bathrooms at the parking lot, picnic tables, and lots of easy trails.

Just 8 minutes away from my front door, this trail is great to just get outside and surround myself in nature. Many times you’ll find me there with my children and golden doodle. Bring a camera; the light delicacy sculpts deep shadows revealing natural lines and curves that are constantly evolving.

So close to c470 but looks like another planet. Mars maybe with all the red. Guaranteed great views and easy hiking without the crowds. Beautiful with snow and not. We often take visitors on the paths to experience Red Rocks for the first time. Also could drive around for older visitors.

★★★★★ — Renee , Dec 2020

Great open space in the far southwest side of the Jeffco region of the Denver Metro. Lots of parking and trails that are easy up to moderately challenging. There is a loop to access that is about 2 miles perfect for the pooch time.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

🏞️ Scenic views 21 mentions

“Great close park with a range of hikes, we did the Coyote trail which was easy, just over two miles, and enjoyed the view and red rocks.”

The practical stuff

  • AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
  • SurfaceCrushed gravel — the rail-trail classic: softer than asphalt, still smooth enough for tempo work
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
  • At the trailheadparking, restrooms — reported by runners
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
