We have not been able to confirm the surface, distance or shape of South Valley Park, North Trailhead yet from its own listing, the park's website or runner reviews — so those cells stay blank rather than guess. What is below comes straight from the listing and from reviewers' own words. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Mountainous area boasting red sandstone formations and multiple trails, along with picnic shelters.
What runners say about South Valley Park, North Trailhead
“Great for beginners, great view with mule deer running around, can get pretty cold after sun goes down so have a sweater ready!”
“Great place to enjoy God's creation and hike along an easy Trail!”
A few trails around here. I just came for a brief walk during lunch. Plenty of parking, also have a building for seperate restrooms. There are a few picnic tables above the parking lot, and also the trails themselves. The views are gorgeous. There are plenty of red sandstone formations.
Great quick day hike. There is mountain lion activity to be aware of. Lots of lion scat on the Columbine and Cathy Johnson trails. Also came across a large mammal's tibia/fibula on the trail that looked relatively fresh. Hikers and bikers beware.
Saved my life. When I was accustomed to 75 degrees at near-sea level, I decided to go for a run in the 34 degree cold. This lot was at the halfway point, and there is a heated restroom which was basically an oasis in the middle of the cold. Made my trip!
