Confirmed from Spragins Hollow Trailhead's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Hiking area featuring a variety of terrain, plus rock outcroppings and a picnic table.
What runners say about Spragins Hollow Trailhead
“The Trails were reasonably well-maintained, well-signed and had Trail Blaze(s) to help with Route finding.”
“Great set of trails, well marked.”
Great set of trails, well marked. Land Trust of North Alabama does a great job. Key to hiking these trails is stay focused on where you are walking, plenty of rocks. We walked up on snake sunning itself, I think it was a rattle snake and it was not pleased.
Nice one way trail, 3 miles out and back. It does connecting to other trails 👣 though.
Really fun trail with a lot of varying terrain. My three oldest kids and I hiked a section of this in the evening after a brief rain, and while it was muddy, it was definitely manageable.
12nov2021 ~09:15 - ~11:00 ~50s - 60s_F, i had a very enjoyable ~4 miles hike; CCW Loop (Spragins Hollow TH > Devils Racetrack > Shovelton Trail > Rock Wall Trail > Devils Racetrack > Spragins Hollow TH). Up till Elevation ~1000 ft, the Trails were generally wet (probably, from the rain of 11nov2021).
Trail conditions & character
“The trail wraps around and comes back to the parking lot, you can't get lost.”
“My regular route is Piney Loop, to Devils Racetrack, to Wade Mountain Trail, to Harris Trail, to Rock Wall Trail, then Devils Racetrack back to the parking area.”

The practical stuff
- AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- At the trailheadparking — reported by runners
