Confirmed from Stigler Nature Preserve's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

🐕 dog-walking favorite 3 mentions

“Good place to take your dog for a walk.”

Picked out by my adventurous 11yr old. Stigler was a solid 12mi bike ride from where we live in Greenfield but the trail was lovely! Wide and well maintained lightly trafficked on a weekday evening but with diverse enough woodsy scenery to make the short hike quite pleasant. Enjoy the photos!

Took a nice quiet walk with the Chihuahua. The trial is wide and mostly covered with wood chips. There are some low laying areas with mud after a rain. There is a cool wood bridge over a stream and I saw a bench to sit there also. Very peaceful.

Not handicapped accessible, no restrooms. Very few benches. But its paths are beautiful and wide enough to social distance. Nice streams and foliage. Bug spray would be an option. Plus need to bring own doggie bag to clean up after 🐕

As a part of our Wisconsin vacation this year we decided to find as many walking trails as we could find. This one is tucked away and an absolute gem for a mile walk of nature, peace and tranquility. We’ll be most definitely be back on our next trip. 😊👍👍

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

🌲 Natural surface / singletrack 9 mentions

“The path is nice and wide, finished with wood chips or gravel, twisting around a river with two bridges and coming out to an amazing field on the far side of the park.”

The practical stuff

  • AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
  • SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
  • Stroller / wheelchairReported as smooth and step-free enough for a running stroller or a chair.
