Confirmed from Stonewall-Panoramic Trail's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Stonewall-Panoramic Trail

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (142 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 12 mentions

“There is a steep path to pay attention to safety, if the weather is good, the sunset should be beautiful!”

🌳 shaded & cool 5 mentions

“Got to the top, ate a pear and an apple and napped in the shade under some trees.”

Wow. What a gem of a trail. It is certainly not for the faint of heart. It's VERY steep. But the views are absolutely stunning. It will make the climb totally worth it. There is street parking at the trail head. There are no bathrooms or water there, so plan accordingly.

★★★★★ — Matthew , May 2022

Great view. Relatively steep and tough trail, but not very long. Less than 1 hour to the top. About 1.5 hr round trip. Dog friendly. People are nice. No shades on the most part of the trail. No bathroom. Lots of street parking around the entrance of the trail

I made this trail my first home on my first trip to the Bay area. I was not disappointed. I think this is a medium difficulty mountain trail, but there are definitely level stopping/resting points if it becomes too taxing. The views that it offers of oakland, SF, and the Bay area awesome.

Very cool. Many birds and lizards. Didnt see any rattlesnakes. Great view of the Bay. Got to the top, ate a pear and an apple and napped in the shade under some trees. 10/10

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

“Excellent hike, straight up 🤣 and don’t forget to keep looking back because the view from the start just keeps getting better and better!”

Plan your run at Stonewall-Panoramic Trail

The practical stuff

  • AccessDawn to dusk — the gates close, so do not plan a run that finishes after dark
  • SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeRunners describe real tree cover here — it makes a summer afternoon workable
  • LightingRunners report lights on the path — useful for pre-dawn and after-work miles. Lighting and opening hours are separate things, so check both.
  • At the trailheadparking, restrooms — reported by runners
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
  • Stroller / wheelchairReported as smooth and step-free enough for a running stroller or a chair.
