Confirmed from The Watershed Nature Center's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

🌳 shaded & cool 4 mentions

“Trails are mostly shaded with exception to the parts that wind thru a prairie.”

How did I not know this was here before today?! I discovered this place in passing. My mother, my 4-yr-old son, and I left the house last minute at around lunch time to find something to do while we were waiting for the power to be restored at home.

Trail is about half asphalt, half gravel and has very little elevation change. Our walk was pretty quiet when not interrupted by some lady loudly talking on her air pods at full volume. Lots of different birds and flowers, some turtles and a snake or two, and the scenery is beautiful.

Decided to go exploring today and headed to the Watershed Nature Center in Edwardsville. It’s about a mile loop around the lake. Such a beautiful fall walk. Two seconds away from downtown Edwardsville making it easy enough to go for a walk and hit a local restaurant for brunch or lunch!

Highly impressed with this beauty we stumbled upon, had the dog & my friend. We thoroughly enjoyed every bird, leaf, scenic view and all the little little details spread across every turn. They have multiple little places you can go off path & places you can sit to enjoy watching all the active wildlife.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

The practical stuff

  • AccessDawn to dusk — the gates close, so do not plan a run that finishes after dark
  • SurfaceMixed — more than one surface along the route, so check the segment you plan to run
  • Distance1 mi as reported — check whether that is one way or a round trip before you commit
  • ShadeRunners describe real tree cover here — it makes a summer afternoon workable
  • LightingRunners report lights on the path — useful for pre-dawn and after-work miles. Lighting and opening hours are separate things, so check both.
  • At the trailheadparking, restrooms, water — reported by runners
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
  • Stroller / wheelchairReported as smooth and step-free enough for a running stroller or a chair.
