Confirmed from Tie City Trailhead's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Tie City Trailhead

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (31 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 3 mentions

“Beautiful wild flowers and musical wildlife.”

In winter this is one of the best nordic areas I’ve skied in; better than the summit county in Nordic centers in CO. The groomers are out there every day, they’re very good, and you only have to pay for parking. In summer and fall the mountain biking is amazing too.

Happy Jack is one of our favorite places near Fort Collins for cross country skiing. The trail network is well-marked, with detailed maps at the major intersections. And the Medicine Bow Nordic Association does an amazing job maintaining and grooming the trails.

★★★★★ — Jim , Jan 2023

Great place for a great hike. Long or short. Beautiful wild flowers and musical wildlife.

★★★★★ — Reno , Aug 2021

By far my most favorite place to visit for cross country skiing. What not to love? Only 1.5 hrs drive from Fort Collins, amazing outdoors, $5 parking and miles of groomed XC trails for you and your family. Hard to beat! Come enjoy the snow, get in shape, or just explore the winter forest.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
