The towpath is a great activity to do over several trips. At over 100 miles long there is so much to see and so much history as well. Spend the time to ride or walk it and enjoy the towns along the way. There is always a great restaurant within riding distance of the path.
This is a really nice trail, that's mostly by the river. I saw two people on the trail but a deer too. : ) The trail near Amherst is very beautiful. I hope Pete's trail (on the side) is upkept more soon though.
Towpath trailhead behind Ernies Bikes also snackbar, Canoe and kayak rentals in back. Nice bikeshop.
