Confirmed from Tryon Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
What runners say about Tryon Park
Great spot for hiking and biking. Lived at 118 for 11 years. The park is different from when I lived on the street. Bigger parking lot, more trails. Have fun, explore. Before there was a Rochester, there was Tryon. So...try on!
Great place for a hike or biking. If biking please be aware it's a challenge for some and be sure to have safety gear and yeild to hikers. No motorized or electric bikes allowed in the park. Lots of poison ivy during the summer, watch out for ticks.
This is one amazing trail! I rode my mountain bike here. This has some fast downhill areas and some steep climbs. The terrain is some of the best I have ridden in the US. The trail has a hard packed surface. I imagine it would be from the cold winters. This makes for some really exceptional riding.
You’ll mostly find mountain bikers here but it’s also a great spot for a hike or trail run. Most of the trails are more technical here than some of the other biking parks like bay west or dryer road. But there is also a beginner friendly green loop at the south end.

The practical stuff
- AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
- SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- At the trailheadparking, water — reported by runners
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
- Stroller / wheelchairReported as smooth and step-free enough for a running stroller or a chair.
