Confirmed from Tryon Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Secluded city park known for its hiking & biking trails amid picturesque surroundings.
What runners say about Tryon Park
“The area is full of trails, well maintained by GROC, who do a fantastic job keeping things rideable and enjoyable year-round.”
“Beautiful park, but more for biking then walking, there are alot of steep hills that we had to detour around.”
“It is quiet and clean, flowing water and loads of scenic views.”
“It’s an excellent spot for dogs and walkers, and the trails roll down toward Irondequoit Creek—perfect for dogs to swim, and for people too if you’re feeling brave.”
Beautiful spot, various trails. I have gotten a little lost. Be mindful of paths and mountain bikers.
Tryon is a wonderful park for being so nestled in the city. It has aggressive terrain, and feels like you're in the middle of nowhere. The best aspect of that also includes that it's a short linewr distance to the edges of the park, so getting 'lost' isn't really possible.
This park is great!!! I definitely recommend coming here with a bike, the trails were made for biking, lots of jumps and down/uphills. It’s a fun hike too if you don’t mind some climbs. There used to be a water treatment facility here so you may see some old abandoned buildings from it.
Wow! this is a great park. We were visiting family in Rochester, and didn't even know this place existed. There are a lot of rocks, trees and roots, but the trails are very well-maintained. It's a pretty hilly area, with some technical ups and downs. If you like whoops and jumps, this is your place.
Trail conditions & character
“Beautiful park, but more for biking then walking, there are alot of steep hills that we had to detour around.”
“Hilly park and great for mountain biking just be careful with the small pieces of broken glass on the red trails, some seemed to be big enough to puncture a tire.”
“And it's not like I'm running into bicyclists around every corner, mostly see them in the parking lot, but I always keep my eyes out for them, and recall my dogs if need be.”

“I give it the 4 stars, as it's a double edged sword- wonderful place for those looking for adventurous hiking/riding/etc, but not exactly entry-level stuff.”

The practical stuff
- AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
- SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- At the trailheadparking, water — reported by runners
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
- Stroller / wheelchairReported as smooth and step-free enough for a running stroller or a chair.
