Visiting the Waco Mammoth National Monument was an incredible experience from start to finish. The park ranger’s talk was absolutely amazing — informative, engaging, and full of fascinating details about the Ice Age discoveries right here in Texas.
I had such a great experience visiting Waco Mammoth National Monument. From start to finish, everything was really well done. The site is fascinating and so unique, especially seeing the actual mammoth fossils in place. It honestly feels like you’re stepping into a real-life discovery site, not just a museum exhibit.
We stopped in with only 45 minutes of time available and managed to get in the full tour. The tour guide (John Proctor) did an outstanding job- much better than I was expecting. He was informative while also being entertaining. I appreciated his passion. The walk to the dig site is paved and smooth, mildly hilly.
We were in Waco for the day and thought we would check out the Wooly Mammoth site. The Rangers were informative and friendly, the bones at the front were cool. There is a "dig" site by the welcome center and a gift shop that isnt too horribly priced. The walk to the excavation site was not bad and gave us nature.
