Confirmed from Waterfall Canyon's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Hiking trail with a waterfall, featuring frozen falls, exposed sections and views.
What runners say about Waterfall Canyon
“If you're looking for a family-friendly adventure that offers just the right amount of challenge with a gorgeous payoff, this is it.”
“Lots of shade, the relaxing sound of the creek runs along most of the trail, and the view from the end of the trailhead (the waterfall) is spectacular.”
“The trail itself is well maintained, easy to follow, and accessible for a wide range of hikers.”

“Another big plus: dog friendly.”
The hike was beautiful. I'm only giving it 4 stars, because all trails rated this moderately difficult, and I'm still having a hard time walking around today. You'll climb up rocks and walk through water. The inclines are intense. Some parts of the year the water levels are much higher than others.
🏞️ Unforgettable Family Adventure! 🏞️ We took on this amazing trail with our 6-year-old and it was such a memorable experience! 🥾 Varied Trail Terrain 🥾 The path offered a perfect mix of easier sections and more challenging rocky parts.
This is definitely a must do hike in Ogden! It's beautiful at any time of year, a moderate hike with a few steeper inclines and a spot or two of rocky footing. But well worth it. The only reason I have it 4 ⭐ is because the trail isn't well marked in some spots.
Beautiful hike. It took us about 90 minutes total round trip. The way up is quite steep so you gain elevation fast. Recommend a pair of shoes with good traction as it can get a bit slippery in parts.
Trail conditions & character
“This was the first time that I have done this hike, and it happened to be during winter while the waterfall was frozen over.”
“If you are going to do this hike in the winter either make sure you have some very knobby hiking shoes or use cleats/traxs as the trail is pretty steep in a few sections.”
“Great for kids and dogs alike and the waterfall at the end is a great reward for the hike”

The practical stuff
- AccessOpen 24 hours — no gate to beat, so a 5am or a 10pm run both work
- SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeRunners describe real tree cover here — it makes a summer afternoon workable
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
