Confirmed from Windmill Hill Preserve Trail's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Windmill Hill Preserve Trail

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (38 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🌳 shaded & cool 3 mentions

“The trails are very well defined and there is plenty of shade.”

🌾 quiet & peaceful 3 mentions

“I almost prefer it due to how quiet and peaceful it is.”

Can't complain. It's off of I20 and has various parking spots scattered on the trails. It is shady and has many decomposing trees. I would be cautious of tree limbs hanging by a thread. Some parking spots are better than others.

Nice place to hike. The trails are very well defined and there is plenty of shade. Quite a few steep parts though..

★★★★☆ — Denise , Sep 2021

Nice alternative to Cedar Ridge Preserve. I almost prefer it due to how quiet and peaceful it is. You won't get a hardcore workout but you can piece together a couple of trails for a little sweat.

★★★★★ — Alex , Jan 2020

Beautiful well maintained trails. Trails are well marked and offer a range of difficulties from easy to advanced. A big plus is that the trails are not crowded .

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
