Confirmed from Woodchuck Hill Field and Forest Preserve's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Woodchuck Hill Field and Forest Preserve

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (50 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 5 mentions

“Beautiful, tranquil, but might as well be called little snake preserve cause there are always SO MANY popping up here and there.”

🪧 well-marked 2 mentions

“Unfortunately trail markers just end, still easy to follow just disconcerting in fresh snow.”

👟 good for all levels 2 mentions

Hiking the trails here was a fun time for all. Gentle grades bordered by beautiful ancient stone walls, I'm guessing probably built sometime during the Neolithic period. That's when we built things to last. Also, with all the room out here this place is highly recommended for all your activities; so much room.

Amazing little trail on the east side of Syracuse. Part of a land trust, the main trail is one loop near the parking area with an overlook of a small pond, connected westward by a single path to a secondary loop surrounding a larger pond.

This is such a good place to get out into nature. There are a couple trails. And if you look for it you will find a trail across the swamp, but cross at your own risk and wear the right shoes. The rocks here are a soft kind that hold so many detailed fossils and concretions.

Very nice easy well maintained trail. There is no real big main attraction its just a nice walk through the woods.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
