Confirmed from Woodland Trail's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

“Wow, great hiking spot and peaceful!”

This is a fun trail to hike! It’s a fun way to get out and explore Shelby Forest. It was more challenging than we anticipated it being. Some of the inclines were steeper than I expected for this trail. However, it was fun and a great workout. We saw a lizard and a snake.

Did the 1-mile loop, planning to go back with more time set aside to do the 3-mile loop. Well-worn, clearly marked trail with good hilly variability, pristine forest scenery, and a few small, sturdy bridges. Good hike for family, our 3 and 5 year olds were challenged by it but did well.

Wow, great hiking spot and peaceful! The air is very fresh and clean; you can smell the healing affects of being in nature and the lush greenery is peaceful to the human spirit. There were some bugs but surprisingly I did not get a single mosquitoes bite walking the trails for over an hour or so!

Awesome trail with surprising amount more ascent/descent than you might expect. Bring water and bug spray! Keep your eyes on the lookout for red dots as they mark the trail. Some parts of the trail are still getting cleaned up from the storms earlier this year and you have to stray from the path a couple times.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
