This is the trailhead you want to park at when hiking the canyon to see The Major. I did it with 3 kids and it was a good challenge. With all the stops we took it took us 3 hours to complete. Clean trail, very steep the last half but manageable. Amazing views of the valley.
November 2023 update. The updates are BIG: A paved parking lot south of the original, and it looks like the north lot will be paved shortly. A restroom was also added! I hike to Big Rock pretty regularly with my kiddos ranging from 24 to 8 years.
Loads of parking. Did the moderate 6 mile out and back. There are also 1.5 mile easy and 10+ mile hard trails. The very beginning is UP. When you get past that it is kind of up and down. Passed people riding bikes, hiking (with and without dogs) and running and saw evidence of horses on the trail.
Wonderful trailhead. Ample parking and several trails to choose from. I went straight up towards the canyon summit and then up a trail to the south. Lots of birds today, including dozens of Towhees in the snall trees along the trail. Occasionally the trail follows a creek. Still plenty of snow on some of the hills.
