Confirmed from Blue Dot Trailhead's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
What runners say about Blue Dot Trailhead
it has great views.. my cats were little cold but we had great time during our hiking 😍
You have to climb past the fallen rock up the blue dot to make it to the giant loop. Be mindful, you’re entering bear county! Got to see 3-4 bears near the iris trail! Just about less than 300 ft from the trail.
Interesting trail. Very rocky at points so wear some good shoes. You will have to climb up boulders on a hill at some point which may be tough with a dog.
Well, we didn’t bring the cat, so you have to trust previous reviewer as to cat friendliness… But the dog loved the trail almost as much as we did. In a couple of places she (the dog, 55lbs and in great shape) needed a little push to get over the rocks.

The practical stuff
- AccessOpen 24 hours — no gate to beat, so a 5am or a 10pm run both work
- SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
