Confirmed from Butterfield Canyon Trailhead's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Butterfield Canyon Trailhead

I almost gave 3 stars because this is small, you can ride evening in one morning. I gave it 4 (wanted 3.5) since they are adding more downhill bike trails. We're very spoiled with trail systems in the valley. If the sun is out I recommend Galena gulch and the lower half of copper rise because it's shaded.

Amazing trail system. Lots of trails for everyone. You can ride up to the mine overlook or use the connector trail at the top of Bolt DH trail and ride over to yellowfork.

★★★★★ — Landon , May 2025

Lots of good mountain biking trails. Ok for hiking and running. Great view of the mine.

★★★★☆ — Daniel , Apr 2025

I don't know if I was on the "Butterfield Canyon Trail" like Google thinks I was. I was just on the road heading up the canyon. In winter they block the road off, so it makes it a nice place to go to walk. I usually walk up for about a half hour (1.5 miles) and turn around and head back.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
