My kiddo (9) and I took the Cal Magnusson Trail up to Pinnacle Peak firelook out. We took our time, and it took about an hour to go up and then another hour to go down. The trail was steep and muddy. It is a really good trail to teach trail etiquette as it was a busy trail.
Really nice hike it was a workout going up because it’s just incline but just take your time . Once you get to the look out it’s worth it. You get a 360 view of the forest There are some journals under the benches in there where you can leave a poem or just your name to say you made it to the top !
Nice trail, a little muddy at some spots and rocky. Pretty tough going up because its mostly ascending and not much level ground. About 1 hour one way, going down was pretty easy since its mostly descending. Probably lost a pound after it all.
There is a mix of technical steep climbs and smooth gradual stone road. The summit area does not have a view, which makes the reward of reaching the top purely intrinsic. The trails are fairly well maintained with some mild erosion from switchback cutting. Also several interpretive sign posts on the the road climb.
