Confirmed from Carpenter Nature Center's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

A piece of Heaven on Earth is how I sum up Carpenter Nature Center. The pathways wind through some of the nicest prairie, wooded and riverside habitats available to enjoy within an easy driving distance from the Twin Cities. Didn't take many photo's, so you will have to go there to experience the beauty in person.

This is a beautiful nature center close to the Cities. The visitor center has some nice exhibits of local animal life; snakes, frogs, turtles, toads - but what was surprising were the owls, perigrine falcon and the eagle housed at the center.

We’ve been to Carpenter Nature Center many times. It’s out favorite place to get apples in the fall. We also love hiking on the beautiful grounds, stopping in to visit the beautiful raptors, and enjoying their educational programs. The views of the St Croix River are breathtaking.

Carpenter Nature Center is a great place to go for a hike all year around, but especially in the fall. It is my favorite place to buy low pesticide apples. Check out their Apple Shack!

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
