Confirmed from Chuckwalla Trail Head's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Red rocks & desert wildlife at a popular connector trail in the Red Cliffs Desert Reserve.
What runners say about Chuckwalla Trail Head
“On the backside of the hike (Becks Hill and Turtle Wall) you gain some elevation and are rewarded with stunning views of Santa Clara and St.”
“Easy trail- we did go just a few hours after rain so I’m not sure how sandy it usually is.”
Great mountain bike and scrambling trail right off the highway. Wanted to bike a quick bit before heading back home and the turtle wall trail and loop was awesome. Beautiful day in St George.
Great area for hiking and rock climbing. Chuckwalla trail does also have Chuckwallas! You can see other lizards along the trail as well as desert tortoise. Snake holes throughout the trail so while we didn’t see any snakes be prepared to pay attention to where you walk. Great 1.
These photos are from 12-11-2021. We randomly chose this trail to go for a walk while we were in town. The trail itself can be a bit rocky and sandy, but we saw families, dogs, seniors and mountain bikers all using the same trail. It was cool to walk by all the climbers as we started the trail. Very nice trail system!
Stunning landscape! Very accessible hike with just enough variation and uneven surfaces to provide a challenge, but still easy enough for most people. Beautiful colors, plenty of areas to climb, and excellent photo ops. Very close drive from town. Definitely worth multiple visits.

- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- At the trailheadparking, restrooms — reported by runners
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
