We have not been able to confirm the surface, distance or shape of Churchill Nature Preserve yet from its own listing, the park's website or runner reviews — so those cells stay blank rather than guess. What is below comes straight from the listing and from reviewers' own words. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
What runners say about Churchill Nature Preserve
What's the difference between a red oak, a white oak, and a black oak? And what is a slippery elm tree? Not only have boy scouts put up signs to identify these and many other trees, they have rebuilt 3 bridges and created new walking paths. The little creek is flowing again, and there are newly made picnic tables.
It really depends on for what you are looking. For all intensive purposes, it's a nature reserve, meaning trails are overrun and I'm sure the reserve hasn't been touched by people in years. I personally go to photograph unkempt nature.
A sweet, maybe half-mile circular through seasonal woodland, recently and wonderfully revived (after long neglect and Hurricane Sandy devestation) by local Eagle Scouts. A little up and down. Wide, mostly wood-chipped path. A bit of nature signage A small brook running through. A vernal pond.
