We have not been able to confirm the surface, distance or shape of Crazy Canyon yet from its own listing, the park's website or runner reviews — so those cells stay blank rather than guess. What is below comes straight from the listing and from reviewers' own words. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (87 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🪧 well-marked 3 mentions

“Easy to stay on the "main" trail, there was ample shade, clearly marked signs.”

🌾 quiet & peaceful 5 mentions

“After 5 months of wintering in Florida, it was so great to hike up into the beautiful, peaceful Patty Canyon mountains!”

🐕 dog-walking favorite 3 mentions

“Multiple trails, good amount of parking, dog friendly and a gorgeous view of Missoula at the top!”

Prepare for some hills and beautiful scenery. Make sure to take a map and guidebook as well as plenty of water with you because it connects to other areas such as mt sentinel and if you're not from the area it's possible to get lost or accidentally take a 6 hour hike 😁

★★★★★ — Katie , Jul 2019

Great hike, very doable all the way to the top of Sentinel even in the winter.

★★★★★ — Sebastian , Dec 2020

Absolutely, stunningly beautiful. Well maintained paths that are clearly marked. Probably not up to snuff for the expert/advanced hiker, but I can't speak to other people's fitness needs. We wound up about 2700 feet above where the trail started, so there is indeed some sort of challenge.

★★★★★ — Scott , Feb 2017

I ride mountain bikes in the canyon, and the trails are pretty well made. There are Forest Service numbers on the trails, but it would be great if the signs actually said the names of the trails.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
