Great local hike! So many trails to choose from, the only downside is that the parking is limited. Best parking is 7am to 8am and 11ish and in the evening. Mostly exposed, wear a hat and sun protection. Best view of Escondido in town!
I’ve hiked here many times over decades, including some moonlit summer hikes with groups years ago. I even used to rent horses to ride through the ranch in a group a long time ago. The history and views, including wildlife, are wonderful. I’m grateful this land was set aside for us all to enjoy.
Beautiful hike, great workout. We started at the parking lot and took Creek Crossing to Sage Trail to Stanley Peak, then returned via the lake and Ranch House. A little over 7 miles total.
Started out by parking in the free lot on La Honda. Then took the trail out to Stanley Peak. Along the way there were many excellent views. I really enjoyed the old water tank. I noticed that if you slap it the metal makes an amazing sound since it is empty.
