Confirmed from Deer Island's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Park for short walks, hikes, fishing and eagle-watching, featuring riverside views.
What runners say about Deer Island
“Trails were clean, spent 3 hours fishing, no bites but you hit there at the right time, you can hook into a few.”
“People fishing should take more responsibility and respect this beautiful park.”
“cool view of the bridge- dogs ACTUALLY ON LEASH - quiet, parking, access to water”
“the area has wonderful scenery for photographing ,nature walks without cameras, adventures of the wild for all ages with imaginations.”
Great three seasons out of the year. I avoid it during the summer. Fishing hooks, rotting bait and rotting fish line the shore and some paths. People fishing should take more responsibility and respect this beautiful park.
Great place for a small nature hike with kids or to try your luck fishing. Be careful of the strong currenst and keep children (and adults) out of the water. In 2022, there was a family tragedy where kids and one parent drowned.
A quick little get a way from people and a nice short walk for the dogs
Although I do not socialize with many that go there .I rather find the island a beautiful place of raw nature at nature's best .the area has wonderful scenery for photographing ,nature walks without cameras, adventures of the wild for all ages with imaginations.

The practical stuff
- AccessOpen 24 hours — no gate to beat, so a 5am or a 10pm run both work
- SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- At the trailheadparking — reported by runners
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
