Confirmed from Emma Carlin Trail Head's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Emma Carlin Trail Head

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (359 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

well-maintained 3 mentions

“Trails are well kept, there is oncoming traffic with hikers and potentially dogs as their companions… something to watch out for.”

🏞️ beautiful scenery 4 mentions

“A bit muddy from all the rain, but otherwise in beautiful shape.”

🪧 well-marked 2 mentions

“Well marked trails, opposite direction for hiking than biking.”

Lacking running water, but does have picnic tables and toilets. Self pay is $8 per vehicle and $5 per trail user, which is a bit steep, most regular users will be better served to buy annual passesfor both in January.

Great place to hike. Beautiful day, so it was quite busy. Our one year old golden retriever got some really good training time due to a combined use trail we hiked. The trail was a bike/hike trail, and our pup did really well when bikes would pass. This is just a suggestion for the bikers.

I've been riding the Emma Carlin trail system for 26 years. I've rode all over the country and I still thank God every day that Emma is my home trail! Huge shout out to IMBA and all of the volunteers that keep this system in tip top shape! The trail, no doubt, has changed in that time span.

Trail was muddy and very narrow in some areas. I did the shorter trail which was a moderate hike and had many different terrains to see and navigate. I will definitely go back and hike the other trails believe there are 3 all together.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
