Confirmed from Forest Park Trail's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
What runners say about Forest Park Trail
“Beautiful and about 2 miles total (out and back).”
Fun trail in and out. Some steep inclines but it's great exercise. You walk past some water towers on the hike and into another Park you can take the trail back or walk the road to the trailhead by the school district. Or vice versa depending on where you decide to start the trail
About a mile or so hike. You are going to face some incline in either direction you choose to start, but the trail is wide and either gravel or partially paved. Part of it serves as an access road. There is a map on both ends detailing the trail and designated parking areas.
I hesitated to take this hike because of some of the reviews. First, this trail is only about a mile but if you connect it to the beach trail that is right around the corner from the parking lot, you end up with a total of about 2 miles each way which makes 4 mi round trip which to me is a pretty decent hike.
Mostly fairly steep hills. Beautiful and about 2 miles total (out and back).

The practical stuff
- AccessHours vary — hours are not posted for this trail, so check before an early or late run
- SurfaceCrushed gravel — the rail-trail classic: softer than asphalt, still smooth enough for tempo work
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- At the trailheadparking — reported by runners
