Confirmed from Frenchman Mountain's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Steep mountain with hiking trails featuring panoramic views of the city and Las Vegas Valley.
What runners say about Frenchman Mountain
“Lesser known are the many caves, natural arches, and beautiful canyons!”
Incredible hiking, vistas of the whole valley! Caves, arches, amazing rock formations! Hikes are not novice, there are many areas with loose rock/shale which makes footing very uneven and loose, but they are very rewarding.
This was an extreme hike, with very steep inclines, this isn’t for someone who is out of shape. There is no shade along the way so I don’t recommend doing this in the summer. I needed a hydro pack and a large gatorade to make it to the top and back. It took the entire day to make it to the top and back, about 7 hours.
Intense hike because it's steep with loose rocks. There is also a false summit. Great for training/exercise. Bring plenty of water and hiking poles may help. Views are beautiful though.
Kalyn showed me this trail tonight. Forgot to record our way up but I remembered the way down, lol. Cathedral rock used to be our “go to” for steep climb and cardio, and the one we would bring other possible candidates who we thought “if they could make it up this with us without quitting they can hang with us” trail.

“My friends opted to climb the peak, there is no trail and as always recommend leave no trace but they really wanted to see the whole view of Vegas.”

The practical stuff
- AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- LightingRunners report lights on the path — useful for pre-dawn and after-work miles. Lighting and opening hours are separate things, so check both.
