Confirmed from Hawk Rock Overlook's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

Easy, two-mile hike to an overlook of the Susquehanna River.

well-maintained 5 mentions

“Trail is very well kept and clean, this trail is definitely not for rookies”

🏞️ beautiful scenery 14 mentions

“Beautiful place and a fun hike but if your out of shape there's parts on the trail that are a little hard but still not too bad.”

Nice hike with great views. It's definitely a steep hike so not super easy if you're not in shape. There's a decent amount of parking in the parking area and the lot is easy to get to using google maps. There's also a sign off the rd. that says hawk rock with an arrow which helped verify we were going the right way.

The hike is short but challenging. A lot of rocks and some steep spots. However, I saw a father with two children under 10 with him at the overlook so nothing impossible here. Beautiful view over the entire area at the overlook. We saw a train passing along the Susquehanna and Duncannon.

★★★★★ — Michael , Sep 2021

Quick 90 minute hike; path is maintained, with many rock steps and steep ascent to a beautiful rocky overlook. Then hike back down. Very popular with all ages and many dogs. Everyone nice and enjoying beautiful weather. Clean maintained port-a potty in parking lot at trail head.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
