Confirmed from Idema Explorer Trail's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
What runners say about Idema Explorer Trail
“they put in a boardwalk semi-recently and it’s in great condition along with at least half a dozen other bridges.”
“Absolutely love this trail, peaceful, beautiful flowers & the river, mostly all paved & well tended.”
One of the best sections of the Grand River Explorers Trail, hands down! A moment of silence for the brave men and women for blazed a trail through a literal sea of poison ivy to make this happen.
Used this trail on my way back from Millennium Park, I was on my bike so it was good to get away from traffic and ride through nature. It was very quiet didn’t see anyone else just after 8am.
great trail for hiking, biking, or running! the main trail is paved and connects with indian mounds kent trails. there are a few smaller offshoots, some which are paved and other which are dirt. whole path is very flat and has lots of birds, squirrels, and deer.
I really love the place. The walking trail is easy to walk and beautiful scenery. Kid friendly and pet friendly, bicycles are welcome as well. I walk it just about every day.

The practical stuff
- AccessHours vary — hours are not posted for this trail, so check before an early or late run
- SurfaceMixed — more than one surface along the route, so check the segment you plan to run
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
