Confirmed from Indian Canyon Mystic Falls' own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

Hiking Trail Review Palisades Park Outer Loop - 4.3 Miles This was a pretty crowded trail parking wise but didn’t really encounter many people on the trail itself. Once I found parking the trail was easy to find and follow. Very well marked and easy to navigate with many options to extend or shorten your hike.

This place was so much fun! Lots of well beaten paths to walk on. Hiking along the creek bed was pretty and fun. The waterfall at the end was very nice. Lots to look at with beautiful scenery. TAKE BUG SPRAY!!

★★★★★ — Samantha , Jun 2025

Phenomenal sight! Nature doesn't disappoint with this waterfall. It's nestled down into a canyon, making it nearly invisible until you get down the trail, which is very steep. It's worth it, though!

★★★★★ — Jamie , Jun 2025

Wear bug spray but the view is worth it. The trails going down to the falls are narrow, steep, and full of mosquitoes. It might be a struggle to get down to the stream if you have bad knees. The main trail is easy to walk and you can hear the water.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

🏞️ Scenic views 28 mentions

“we had to cross the stream 2-3 times and walk through some muddy nearly impassable areas to pick up the trail again, but it got us to the waterfall!”

The practical stuff

  • AccessOpen 24 hours — no gate to beat, so a 5am or a 10pm run both work
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
  • At the trailheadparking — reported by runners
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
  • Stroller / wheelchairReported as smooth and step-free enough for a running stroller or a chair.
