Confirmed from John Wayne Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Park and picnic spot with parking that's great for sunset gazing. Tranquil atmosphere too.
What runners say about John Wayne Park
“I recently had the pleasure of witnessing the day's grand finale from this unassuming park, and it was a truly serene and beautiful experience.”
“I recently had the pleasure of witnessing the day's grand finale from this unassuming park, and it was a truly serene and beautiful experience.”
I found this small neighborhood park inadvertently in my continuing search for coastal view spots. To my surprise, the scenery from up here was panoramic! Not only did I get an ocean view, I also had an overview of Newport Harbor and Balboa Peninsula!
Really cool place to park send some emails as are many parks in this area. The memorial is pretty cool. I didn’t take the walk down as it appears it leads to John Wayne's Yacht which I still haven’t found! I take a lot of these roads to steer away from the congestion at times on the PCH.
Trail conditions & character
“Sweet spot in an upscale residential neighborhood which affords a good view of surrounding area's islands, waterways and (in the distance) oceanfront.”
“Free parking is limited in the small lot spaces adjacent to the park but there is more parking along the street.”
“I recently had the pleasure of witnessing the day's grand finale from this unassuming park, and it was a truly serene and beautiful experience.”
“There’s no public restrooms at the park, tho may be available at some of the establishments down the steps, with additional business appreciated in exchange.”
