Confirmed from Lakewalk's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Lakewalk

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (892 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 16 mentions

“I was simply amazed as I thought the scenic beauty of Lake Superior is on full display here and the Lakewalk trail provides a perfect vantage point to soak it all in.”

Enjoyed 3 strolls with my wife along this great path in the 3 days we were in Duluth. Although I believe I heard it was 7 miles long, we just did the stretch between Leif Ericsson Park (free parking) and the Aerial Bridge. We saw a lake otter being chased and harassed by a pack of seagulls.

Beautiful anytime of the year. I absolutely love the lake walk. Such a great opportunity for photography. I can see why we get thousands of people down here in the summer. Definitely recommend if you haven’t been here.

I've had the pleasure of visiting Lakewalk while I was recently in Duluth. I was simply amazed as I thought the scenic beauty of Lake Superior is on full display here and the Lakewalk trail provides a perfect vantage point to soak it all in.

This is a wonderful place to go for a walk. Walking in canal and around the bridge is absolutely beautiful. The views of the lake are amazing no matter where you are on the lake walk and you are right by lots of food options. Also fun to keep walking past the bridge out to park point!

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

Plan your run at Lakewalk

The practical stuff

  • AccessOpen 24 hours — no gate to beat, so a 5am or a 10pm run both work
  • SurfaceMixed — more than one surface along the route, so check the segment you plan to run
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
  • LightingRunners report lights on the path — useful for pre-dawn and after-work miles. Lighting and opening hours are separate things, so check both.
  • At the trailheadparking, restrooms — reported by runners
